This is the post I do every Friday, which I post a first line of a book, which generally has a connection to a date close to when it is posted. In addition the book is usually one that I have read or is on my TBR.
So here goes:-
Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel
“’So now get up”
This simple opening line is for Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel, who’s birthday was on the 6th of July. This is the first book in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy. With this one and the second Bring up the Bodies both winning, The Booker Prize, with the latest novel The Mirror and the Light has been shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
The series tells the story of Thomas Cromwell though not born with status climbed up the social ladder to become The 1st Earl of Essex and adviser to Henry the VIII, before his execution in 1540.
Although I have read Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, a few years ago and enjoyed them. When the Mirror and the Light, came out, I started to listen to the Audio book, but due to the lockdown in the UK, I was not listening to it often enough, so decided to stop, and come back to it later.
