How Beautiful They Were
Boston Tearn

This is a book i got from BookSirens for a fair and honest review. It is set in the New York theatre of the 1800’s,, when it was the Hollywood of its day.

Having all its trademark insanities. It was everything that was America. Its beauty and excitement, its rise and fall of personalities, its joys and desperations, selfish corruptions and violence. Even its hatred and racism.

I am about 25% into it and the stoy has started moving along.

I think that Don Quixote, is the most moden character i have ever read in a book even though it was published in the early 1600s.

This book iis in my list of books to be read fro a couple of reasons, the first is that it is by a black author, and second it has been shorlisted for a prize this year (The Wiman’s prize for fiction). which makes it elagable for my Modern Mrs Darcy reading challange of 2020). It tells the story of twelve people through the U.K’s last 100 years. i have only read about 20% of the book but i am enjoying it so far.

I decided to add this book to my WWW Wednesday list as part of the chanes in what i read after the killing of George Floyd , which you can read about in my post here.

This is a biting satire about a young man’s isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty’s The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game.
